Season of Lent
By Administrator Account @ 12:46 PM :: 111 Views :: Announcements, News

Ash Wednesday is February 17. Plan to attend the Ash Wednesday Supper beginning at 5:00 p.m. and Worship Service at 7:00 p.m. Before we begin the sacrificial time of Lent, enjoy a delicious flauta dinner, sponsored by the youth. The menu will include chicken or potato and cheese flautas, beans and rice, pico de gallo, coffee or soda. The free will offering will go to the youth for their future activities.

Midweek Lenten Services will be held in conjunction with Central United Methodist, St. Paul’s Lutheran and Redeemer Lutheran. Again this year we will enjoy the hospitality of Central United Methodist for these weekly gatherings, Wednesdays in Lent. The theme of this Lenten series will be taken from the World Council of Churches campaign to overcome violence; “From Cries of Desperation to Stories of Hope”. (Below see an example from that series.)

Wednesdays in Lent
February 24 - March 24
Soup Supper 6:00 p.m. followed by Worship at 6:45 p.m.
At Central United Methodist Church
25th and Wisconsin Avenue

From Cries of Desperation to Stories of Hope
A Lenten study on the global struggle to end violence
· How can an illiterate Dalit woman in India find the courage to say ‘Now we are fearless’?
· How can a young Colombian woman raised in a shanty town find joy and health?
· How can a South African man find the courage to repent of his violence against his wife?
This study is a chance to
· Follow the stories, week by week, and learn how people are overcoming the violence they face.
· Use Lent as a time to remember Jesus’ time in the wilderness, his passion and his death.
· Think about ways in which Christians can make the good news of the Resurrection a reality in people’s lives.

Join the struggle to end violence and bring justice and peace to those who suffer.
Please join us on this Lenten journey.
